In 1994 shortly after the entering into force of the newly adopted Regulation (EEC) No 95/93 (the Slot Regulation), a group of coordinators and schedules facilitators in the European Union decided to meet and exchange on a regular basis with the goal to harmonise the interpretation and practical application of the Slot Regulation . From this emerged the EUACG (European Union Airport Coordinators Group) which later became EUACA..

Some important results of this joint cooperation are:

• European coordinators and schedules facilitators, on a voluntary basis, organise the so-called Schedules Optimization Meeting (SOM). This event has become an important milestone  in the coordination process for the summer period. The SOM is regularly being attended by over 100 airlines every year in order to finalize their summer schedules.
• EUACA members have agreed on Recommended Practices and Guidance Material, published on the EUACA website, aiming at a common interpretation/implementation of the Slot Regulation, some of which have/has been included in the Slot Regulation in previous amendments EUACA constantly strives to achieve an even higher level of harmonization among its members.
• While each coordinator is using a coordination software tailored to its individual needs, EUACA on its own initiative has created and funded a combined database collecting data from each coordinator and schedules facilitator organised within the association. The EUACA combined database now comprises the data for more than 190 airports, which is updated every day.
• EUACA (in 2010) signed a memorandum of cooperation with EUROCONTROL in order to provide  EUROCONTROL with airport planned activity data through a single channel, the EUACA combined database. Since 2012, EUROCONTROL has been successfully using these data for  its traffic forecast for the upcoming days/weeks and for the entire airspace under its responsibility
• EUACA has been proactively working with the International Air Transport Association - IATA to elaborate the new Industry communication standard based on XML technology to substantially improve computer-to-computer communication.
• Some coordinators/schedules facilitators have developed a common online access (online portal) to their individual systems and databases for the airspace users at their respective airports.
• Coordinators/schedules facilitators from Scandinavia and Finland have pooled their human and IT resources to save  costs while remaining in close contact with their individual airports and airspace users Other coordinators/schedules facilitators are working in a similarly cost-efficient way .
• It was due to an initiative of EUACA that the Worldwide Airport Coordinators Group (WWACG) was established with EUACA members constituting a substantial part of this organisation. WWACG is an international organisation which is recognized by the industry as representing the interests of coordinators and schedules facilitators worldwide and that may be invited to attend suitable meeting of  the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
